Jobs aren't just given out in the NFL. As nice as it would be to keep guys on cheap deals that might just be in slumps, teams have to move on when they aren't getting proper production for their money.

The Detroit Lions are experiencing this first-hand with free agent corner Amani Oruwariye.

Everyone already probably saw this one coming.

Despite an extremely productive season as a starter with the Lions in 2021 and with a decent track record during his first two years, Oruwariye always looked poised to leave the Lions in free agency.

Instead, the Giants stepped up and took the plunge.

The Lions did miss out on a chance to bring back a young player on a cheap deal that was a true star for them two years ago, but the current production just didn't live up to what they had seen before.

Whether it was from the injury at the end of 2021 or something else, Oruwariye did take a step back in 2022, and it is hard to come back from a moment like that with a team that then finds a way to put it all together with you on the bench.

Maybe the Giants will hit it big by giving the young corner. chance to finally prove that his third season wasn't a fluke, but the Lions just aren't in a position to take chances like that right now.

It was time for a split.
