The Detroit Lions defense has been pretty fun to watch this season. Specifically over the course of the last two weeks. They've been getting home a lot more often with seven sacks against the Falcons and 5 against the Packers. Now they're about to get another pass rusher back to help out. It just might take a little more time.
The Lions have designated Okwara to return from injured reserve. What that means is that he now has a 21 day window in which he needs to return to practice for the Lions and be activated. If he does not do so, he will revert back to injured reserve and his season will be over.
He does not count against the Lions 53-man roster at this time. Although if he comes back this week and practices, he could be activated soon. Then the Lions would have to make a corresponding move to open a spot up.
Okwara had a pretty good preseason. He had four sacks in three games. Three of those came against the Giants in the first game of the preseason. He'll fit in nicely as an extra pass rusher for the Lions if and when they're able to get him onto the field.
