With David Montgomery out for the foreseeable future, the Detroit Lions elevated second year running back Zonovan Knight from their practice squad on Tuesday.
Knight went undrafted in 2022 and was signed by the New York Jets. He started four games for the Jets last season and ran for 300 yards and a touchdown. He was expected to be a bigger part of the Jets backfield in 2023, but he Jets signed Dalvin Cook and got Breece Hall back. With Michael Carter on the roster too, that pushed Knight out.
I would expect to see a decent amount of Knight against the Falcons. There's some hard running talent there and his style is very much like David Montgomery's. This is a big moment for him to show that he indeed beings in the NFL.
If he performs well enough, there's shot he could stick on the Lions roster. They carried four running backs last year. They could do it again this year.
