What a road it has been for Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff. At one point in time, Goff was considered to be one of the top quarterbacks in the league among players who actually play in the league. In 2019 he was voted the 32nd best player in the NFL 100. He then hit that regression wall hard and has missed out on the list every year since.
Goff changed the perception about him a lot in 2022 when he came out and had the best year of his entire NFL career. The rest of the league took notice and voted to bring him back into the top 100 world. Jared Goff has made the list at 66.
He really does deserve it. Goff went through career hell there for a minute. The Rams had given up on him and traded him away and things did not start out very well with the Lions. Goff completely turned that around.
Jared Goff had a big 2022 season. He threw for 4,438 yards and 29 touchdowns. He also completed 65 percent of his passes and had a passer rating of 99.3. He finished in the top 10 in the league in all of those statistics. The big thing was Goff's ball security. He managed to go nine straight games without throwing an interception. No other quarterback was able to do that in 2022.
You can watch the NFL Films video here. It features Amon-Ra St. Brown, Alim McNeil, Bills corner Taron Johnson, Chargers linebacker Eric Kendricks, Commanders corner Benjamin St. Juste, Eagles linebacker Haason Reddick and Dolphins defensive tackle Christian Wilkins.
Goff is expected to continue this level of play in 2023. If he can, he might find himself on this list yet again next year. Maybe even at a higher rank.
