I love Larry Bird. I know I'm not supposed to because I'm a Pistons guy, but the dude was an all time smack talker. He used to tell guys what he was going to do before he did it. Sometimes he would tell them after he did it that he knew that he could. The Detroit Lions have their own Larry Bird and his name is Jared Goff.
Last night he threw a touchdown pass to a completely wide open Amon-Ra St. Brown. In the first quarter. There's a reason that happened. It's because the Lions knew that Packers cornerback Rasul Douglas knew that they liked to do a certain thing and they used that knowledge against him.
Douglas told Packer beat writer Ryan Wood that Goff went up and let him know after the game.
"Just watching them for three years, every time they're in the red zone, they speed break. They've got one route they ran. for the last three years they've been running it. I jumped it last year. Jared Goff threw it in the dirt. And he had it dialed up. I saw him after the game after he took a knee. He walked right up to me, and was he was like 'bro, you're a hell of a player, but we knew we were going to get you on that one. We went over it every day of practice, and that's the one you jumped. We only had one play off of it.' So they put it in for me. I told him 'I knew it was coming." He was like, 'that's what we wanted you to do is jump it, like you always do.' So that's just on me. I've got to have better eyes."
Pretty dam smooth by the Lions and Jared Goff. Turns out these guys watch a lot of film. Who knew? You have to wonder what happens on Thanksgiving. Are Goff and the Lions in his head now? Are they going to run something like that his way again? We'll find out soon enough.
Until then, Goff is out there just talking his talk. Not only did he do this, he also called out Ryan Fitzpatrick on the post game show after Fitzpatrick called him a poor man's Matt Ryan. Goff is kind of a savage.
