It's beginning to look like things are closer than they've ever been for the Detroit Lions and Emmanuel Moseley. After missing the entirety of camp and then having a hamstring injury when he got to the team, it's looking like Moseley may be making his Lions debut soon. Maybe even Thursday.
But don't expect Moseley to just go out there and be a part of the Lions defense at 100% right away. As expected, the Lions will work him into the system and he will be on a snap count.
“That will be the plan is work him in and I think more than anything, it’ll be by series." Lions head Coach Dan Campbell said Tuesday. "Certainly, give him a couple in a row there to where he gets a good feel and I think probably most of it will be – we’ll put more of a governor on his reps so that we’re smart about that as he comes back. And then really from there it’s just about how does he feel, what’s his body saying and then it’s just about getting into conditioning like the rest of the guys have done over time.”
Campbell didn't specify as to when that debut for the Lions might be, but Moseley has practiced in both walk through practices' this week and with it being a divisional game, you get the feeling that all hands on deck could be the route they go.
Then again, the Lions will have 10 days after Thursday to get ready for the Carolina Panthers. That might be a more appropriate time and place to see if he can go. We'll know a lot more when game designations drop on Wednesday.
What does all this mean for Jerry Jacobs and a potential battle for cornerback two? Campbell talked about that on Tuesday as well.
“Yeah, I think that we’ve said it before here and certainly, he’s (Moseley) got to prove that he’s still worth those reps, but I think that everybody feels pretty good about as he goes out there, he’s going to get his legs back under him pretty quick. But certainly it’ll – we’ll see where that goes. And the good news is, if it’s not quite there yet, then we still have Jerry and we battle it out. So, we’re fortunate to have both of those guys.”
Let's see where it all goes from here.
