For the first time in decades the Detroit Lions are being talked about as a serious contender in the NFC.
With a few major splashes in free agency coupled with the team’s success down the stretch in 2022, the Lions bandwagon is filling up. Rich Eisen is the latest national media talking head to go all-in on Detroit in 2023.
On Tuesday’s Rich Eisen Show, Eisen made his case for the Lions to sit atop the NFC North’s throne next season.
“They played the best football in that division to wrap things up. And they have made some moves, boy do I like them. C.J. Gardner-Johnson, you bring him in. David Montgomery is gonna have to come up with enough touchdowns to supplant Jamaal Williams’ 17, but a lot of those were on the two-yard line. David Montgomery can score from there too.”
He’s not exactly going out on a limb with this prediction considering Detroit (+135) is the betting favorite to win the division, but he’s buying stock early this offseason.
“I’m in. Because you know at six overall they’re gonna get a tremendous football player. And then after that they’re gonna sit back at 18 and get another really good football player who could be just as tremendous as the guy chose sixth overall, or they trade back.”
To take it even further, Eisen guaranteed a home playoff game for the Lions. The last time Detroit hosted a playoff game came in the 1993 season, which is also the last time the team won a division title.
It’s been quite a while since the Lions have garnered this level of national respect. Head coach Dan Campbell and general manager Brad Holmes are building a monster in the Motor City. Jump on the bandwagon now, if you haven’t already. There won’t be many open seats when the season begins.
