You had to know on Friday night after Riley Patterson missed a 53 yard field goal and an extra point that the Detroit Lions kicker situation was anything but set. Now we know they're making some calls.
The Lions really need help at kicker. It's been a while since they've had a steady presence at the position. While Dan Campbell likes to go for it on 4th down, you just can't do that every time in this league. Sometimes you have to take the points. The Lions need a guy who can go out and get the points.
You can see that the Lions are not alone in this. There's other teams looking for a kicker. It's not an easy thing to find these days.
As far as guys the Lions might be looking to trade for, keep an eye on Blake Grupe in New Orleans, Nick Folk in New England and Matt Gay in Indianapolis. Those are just a few kickers that could be available via trade. We'll soon see what the Lions decide to do.
