The Detroit Lions are one of the trendy picks to win the NFC North in 2023.
After going 3-13 in Dan Campbell's first season as the franchise's head coach in 2021, the Lions went 9-8 last season and nearly made the playoffs.
Detroit has a strong roster and plenty of momentum so it certainly appears that they're primed for a breakout season in 2023.
There is one area, however, that the Lions could stand to address before the start of the season.
Thanks to Jameson Williams' six-game suspension for violating the NFL's gambling policy, the Lions are a bit thin at wide receiver (at least until Williams returns).
That's why CBS Sports thinks Detroit should consider reuniting with wide receiver Kenny Golladay, who is currently a free agent.
Golladay, a former third-round pick by the Lions, spent the first four seasons of his career in Detroit. The Chicago native went to the Pro Bowl in 2019 after catching 65 passes for 1,190 yards and 11 touchdowns.
After his four seasons in Detroit, Golladay signed with the New York Giants — which didn't go well for either party. The former Lions wide receiver struggled mightily in 2022, catching just six passes for 81 yards and a touchdown in 12 games. Golladay was plagued by injuries and drops. As a result, Golladay was released by the Giants earlier this spring.
From CBS Sports: Almost nothing went right for Golladay once he cashed in on his Detroit emergence back in 2021 free agency. But the ex-Giant's big frame would be welcome as more of a secondary option now that the Lions have their sights set on a playoff run, especially with Jameson Williams suspended to start the year.
The Lions brought back a familiar face earlier this offseason in wide receiver Marvin Jones so why not roll the dice on Golladay?
Golladay was seemingly comfortable in Detroit and he would be cheap after a disastrous run with the Giants. It's a low-risk move that could help fill a need for the Lions. It's something the franchise should at least seriously consider.
