The first round left some Detroit Lions and NFL fans alike scratching their heads. Neither selection was bad, but going so far against the current trends made some wonder which direction the team was going ahead of such a pivotal season.

Day 2 was a completely different story. The Lions did themselves plenty of favors stockpiling as many picks in these key rounds as they could, and the results did not disappoint.

Detroit ended the day with one of the best safeties in the class, a quarterback that should've gone much earlier, another weapon for the offense, and some depth for the defensive line. How could Brad Holmes have done better?

Lions fans aren't the only ones to take notice of how great last night was. NFL.com was able to lay out just how well the Lions did here.

A quick scroll through the list will quickly show that the Lions were able to make the best value selection of the day with DB Brian Branch and then followed that up later with the fourth-best value pick with the selection of quarterback Hendon Hooker at 68.

Branch figures to be an immediate weapon on this defense that will likely see his position listed as DB more often than not. This level of versatility mixed with his dominance in college made Branch a potential selection in the first round. His slipping was all the better for the Lions.

As for Hooker, there were plenty that believed he could still go in the first round despite his major college injury, and that's saying something. Based on the high upside for Hooker as a player and the need for another developmental piece behind Jared Goff, it is hard to think of that pick going better for the Lions.

Having two of the five-best value picks for the whole day is a pretty great acknowledgment of Brad Holmes and his vision with this Lions team. Things are really looking up for Detroit from a value perspective after a few picks that went against conventional thought in the first round.

That NFC Championship window is looking all the more real.
