Brad Holmes and the Detroit Lions have to be stoked about their rookie class. All their players showed up and showed out in the teams first preseason game against the Giants. One rookie showed out more than any though.

Jack Campbell had a very good game on Friday night. So good that he graded out higher than any other rookie taken in the first round of the 2023 draft. He actually had the highest grade on the entire Lions team. Not bad for a guy that most draft experts felt the Lions had taken too high at the time.

It's not just rookies though. Campbell graded out higher than most of the defensive players in the league. Only 16 defensive players graded out higher. That's very good for a guy that's played his first NFL game on Friday.

Campbell got the green dot on Friday too. Meaning he was responsible for calling the plays on the field. He did pretty well during his time in the game. He led the Lions in a drive that saw the Giants turn the ball over on downs. he made the tackle on the third down and the fourth down on that play.

There's still plenty of games left be played for Campbell, but the Lions have to be encouraged by what they've seen so far.

As for the the rest of the Lions rookies, here's how they graded out:

  • Jahmyr Gibbs: 52.7
  • Sam LaPorta: 36.7
  • Brian Branch: 76.7
  • Brodric Martin: 54.3
  • Colby Sorsdal: 66.7
  • Antione Green: 62.0

Don't be disheartened by the low grades for some of the others. Each one of them made some plays, they all dealt with some expected rookie struggles in certain areas though. That's totally fine.
