Tracy Walker has been a great player for the Detroit Lions in recent years. He broke out big time in 2021 and became one of the teams defensive captains going into the 2022 season. Unfortunately, Walker would tear his Achilles against the Vikings in Week 3 and his season was brought to an end.

Luckily things began to look up for Walker before OTA's and mandatory mini camp and Walker wound up participating in some drills there. Just a few weeks ago, Walker announced that he had been cleared for training camp. On Monday he showed that he can still move.

That's a very good sign for the Lions. Achilles injuries can be hard to get over and there are times when players don't really come back the same. Walker looks like he's going to find himself on the positive side of that scenario.

That's perfect for the Lions because Walker is a leader for this team. In 2021 he was one of Pro Football Focus' highest graded safeties in the NFL for some time. he eventually came back down to Earth a bit, but his play was good enough to earn him a contract extension. Walker turned down multiple other offers to stay in Detroit.

While his injury did hurt the Lions, it also gave way to Kerby Joseph's rise. It should be very fun to watch Walker, Joseph, C.J. Gardner-Johnson and Brian Branch run the safety group for this team. Keep bringing the swag and lead the villain era for the Lions.

As for Walker alone, could very well find himself earning one of the defensive captain roles in 2023.
