Lions re-sign veteran leader on first day of free agency
The Detroit Lions re-signed one of its most important leaders on the defensive side of the ball.
The Detroit Lions are wasting no time in re-signing one of the key cogs to its defense.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports that Detroit is signing LB Alex Anzalone to a three-year deal worth $18.75 million.
Anzalone, 28, did a little bit of everything in the middle of the Lions defense in 2022. He led the team with 125 tackles while contributing seven tackles for loss, six passes defensed, 1.5 sacks, one interception and one forced fumble.
Anzalone has made 31 starts in as many games during his two seasons in Detroit. He has emerged as one of the leaders of the much-improved Lions defense. On the field and in the huddle, Anzalone is a player that the Lions will be counting on moving forward.
Monday has been a busy day across the league, but credit the Lions’ front office for taking care of some of its in-house priorities before turning their eyes to the open market.
