The Detroit Lions have signed the No. 18 overall pick of the 2023 NFL Draft in linebacker Jack Campbell.
The Iowa product signed a four-year rookie deal that includes a fifth-year option, according to the Lions. Campbell was selected as Detroit’s second first-round pick after the team used the No. 12 overall selection on Alabama running back Jahmyr Gibbs.
Campbell was highly decorated during his college days at Iowa. He took home the Butkus Award in 2022 which goes to the top linebacker in college football. Likely sitting right next to the Butkus Award on Campbell’s trophy shelf is the Big 10 Defensive Player of the Year which Campbell also collected last season.
Detroit has put an emphasis on improving the defensive side of the ball throughout the offseason. The team will likely lean on Campbell early and often to make an instant impact whether that be at linebacker or on special teams.
