Lions re-sign important piece to defense
The Detroit Lions locked up one of its most important role players on the second day of the NFL’s free agency period.
The Detroit Lions are retaining one important piece to its pass rush from the 2022 season.
NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reports that the Lions and DE John Cominsky have agreed to a two-year deal worth $8.5 million.
Cominsky, 27, had a career year in his first season with Detroit after beinng waived by the Atlanta Flacons last offseason. A rotational pass rusher, Cominsky tallied four sacks on the year and started in eight of his 14 games played. He managed to produce while playing through a broken thumb.
The 2019 fourth-rounder also recorded career highs in tackles (30), tackles for loss (5) and QB hits (12). Cominsky also forced one fumble and totals three passes defensed.
Now with an established role in the defense, Cominsky will be a critical depth piece behind starters Aiden Hutchinson and Charles Harris.
