The Detroit Lions lost tight end Shane Zylstra to an injury this week and had to waive him after he took a bad shot to the leg in practice and had to be carted off. We know now that his injury is a significant one. On Wednesday, the Lions signed his replacement.

Helm has been around the NFL for a while now. He has yet to find a place to call home though. He's spent time with the Chargers, 49ers, Chiefs, Buccaneers, Raiders and Falcons. He's played 14 NFL games and has one career reception. Unfortunately that reception went for negative one yard.

Helm spent last season with the Memphis Showboats of the USFL. He put up 20 receptions for 205 yards.

Helm is more than likely a guy that's coming in to put himself on film for the NFL season. He has impressive size at 6-foot-4, but he struggles in the athletic department. He has a 5.75 relative athletic score. He can jump, but his speed is an issue. On top of all that, he's 28 years old.

As for Daniels, he has been around the league since 2017 and has spent time with the Colts, Seahawks, Cardinals and Texans. He spent last season with the San Antonio Brahmas of the XFL. Daniels has 13 career receptions for 122 yards and a touchdown. He's played 61 career games.

Like Helm, he has a long way to go if he hopes to make the Lions roster, but his experience should help him have a bit of an advantage over a lot of guys. Daniels is a potential dark horse to come in and grab a roster spot.
