The Detroit Lions have already put together the best offseason of the teams on the market.

The ability to address the secondary in such a way from a free agent standpoint is a testament to Brad Holmes and his staff, and the team should be far better on this side of the ball in 2023.

There is still ground to grow through the draft, but it is fair to say that the Lions are probably only one more move away from winning the offseason if they just get close in the draft.

The last area the Lions need to address is linebacker.

The position isn't terrible, but it also isn't good enough either. With the pass rush and secondary looking ready to take massive steps forward in 2023, finding a way to keep linebacker on that same rate of growth is important.

While the draft would be an easy and cheap way to make this happen, the Lions have also shown that they care about winning now just as much as they do down the road, and the free agent market should support this strategy perfectly.

After a week of free agency, there are plenty of veteran backers on the market that could be day one starters for the Lions, and even Bobby Wagner is still available.

Wagner would be a lot to invest at the position, but he would be the easiest way to guarantee a high level of play with the least amount of waiting.

If the Lions don't love Wagner or his contract, there are still plenty of veterans that can compete for the role as a means of upping the quality of the starter. See Kyle Van Noy, Deion Jones, and even Myles Jack.

It may not be a huge hole relative to where the secondary was at last season, but if the Lions are trying to remodel themselves and take massive strides forward, the linebackers look primed to become the weakest links the fastest.

A good signing here could prevent that.
