Trying to find a way to title this article was difficult. I went through a lot of different options before I juts settled on what I really wanted to say, and that's that this whole thing about Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams lighting fireworks on the 4th of July is dumb.

This is getting incredibly out of hand. Since Jameson Williams was drafted by the Lions, people have been reaching for whatever they possibly can to be upset about. He does Instagram lives, he's out late at night, he spends too much of his money, I don't like the people I think he's hanging out with and he sets off fireworks on the 4th of July.

I mean come on. This is just too much. I get that there have been players in the past that have done bad things while with the Lions. Titus Young had his issues and Charles Rogers had his too. Now we have this kid, who's only wrongdoing is being a kid who didn't understand policy that a bunch of other players didn't understand either, and he's being compared to players who had drug issues and mental health issues. This needs to stop.

Look, I'm not going to out the guy who made the initial post. If you saw it, you saw it. I like the guy who made this post, I've been on his radio show before and we generally have a good rapport I think.

The gist of the post is that there's concern that Jameson Williams is lighting fireworks on his Instagram on the 4th of July. The concern is related to the Jason Pierre Paul accident that happened a few years back in which the defensive end blew off some of his fingers.

The main difference here is that Williams is using a lighter to light a fuse and then backs up. The fireworks don't even go off in the first slide of story he put up. Pierre Paul had the fireworks in his hand when he lit them. Also, this is a totally normal thing that pretty much everyone did on Tuesday.

Now there's people out there writing up stories about it like Williams robbed a bank or did something detrimental to the team. It's holier than thou behavior and it's a total misunderstanding of what a professional athletes life should be like outside of doing their jobs. They can have lives. They can light fireworks too as long as they're safe. Which is exactly what Williams looked to be doing.

My hope is that this all goes away for this kid once he returns from his suspension and shows that he can play football at a high level, but I feel like that's not going to happen for everyone. The self created stink is just going to be stuck in their nostrils. It's sad, because at the end of the day, all anyone is doing is making it hard for this kid to live his best life and live his dream.
