All rise. The Detroit Lions court is now in session. Lions fans will be presiding over today's case and I will be representing both the plaintiff and the defendant. Today the plan tiff and the defendant is defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh.

I love doing all that court talk. In a way, it's sort of my chance to be liek Charlie from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.  guy who's pretty sure he knows the law and how to practice it. Especially if it's the matters of bird law. For me, it's football law. I know I've talked about today's case a million times since 2015. I'm not alone. If you go on any social media site today and type in "Lions Ndamukong Suh," a million results will pop up. Most of them will be Lions fans wanting to bring back Suh. It's an annual thing.

Today we need to solve this. We need to finally talk it out and then never bring it up again. Should the Lions bring back Suh? Allow me to break down both sides of the argument. You can decide what you want to do after it's all said and done.

Bring him back

Ndamukong Suh is old. He's a younger than me, but he's old. He'll be turning 37 years old next January. With that said, he still wants to play and he can play.

In 2022, Suh was looking for a team to play for during much of the season. It's almost as if he waited until he could find out which team had the best chance of winning a Supe Bowl. It seems like that's been his motive operandi since leaving the Dolphins. Every team he went to, was a bout to play in Super Bowl.

He wound up signing with the Eagles and had nice eight games with them before playing in his third Super Bowl game. Suh graded out at a decent 64.2 on Pro Football Focus. He's a long way from the days that he was one of the best defensive tackles in the league. but he can clearly still contribute.

That's a big reason why bringing him back to Detroit could work. The Lions have a relatively young defensive line. As of right now, the old guy in the room is Romeo Okwara at 28 years old. Age can go a long when it comes to giving advice and being a leader on the field. You've been in every situation the guys around you haven't been in yet and you can help guide them through each and every one of them.

Suh is not a starting caliber player anymore, but he can help on a defensive line that needs help on the interior. Even if that section of the line is subject to improve in 2023. You can never get too much help.

Stay away

Look, I loved Ndamukong Suh when he played for the Lions. Since then, Suh has played like lives in the old west and he's just a hired gun. More than anyone in this league, Suh is a businessman and he's just out here making business decisions.

I don't know the man, so this all purely my speculation and theory. Suh had a plan when he left Detroit. The first part of that plan was to make a ton of money. He did that in Miami. When things ran out there, he wanted to add to his legacy by winning a Suer Bowl. It didn't work out with the Rams, but it did with the Buccaneers. I  2022, he tried to win one again with the Eagles and it didn't pan out.

With that said, it's hard to believe that Suh wants to be a team guy. Maybe he does. I've never talked to him about this or heard him talk about it to anyone, so right now my opinion is that Suh is in it for nothing more than Suh. That just doesn't fit the Lions right now.

Now, The Lions have gone out and did things that were counter to what we may have thought this team would do. They basically completely replaced two entire sections of the team this offseason. That really bucked the idea that the Lions want to grow in house more than out of house. So maybe we don't know the team and their motives, as much as we'd like to think we do.

Still, its hard to imagine the Lions bringing in a guy that does not plan to participate in training camp or any offseason activity. While Suh isn't the only veteran player that does or has done something like this. It's sort of a normal part of the game. But it's hard to look at it in any other way than thinking Suh doesn't want to be a full part of a team. He just wants to be Ndamukong Suh.

That's ok. There's nothing wrong with looking out for yourself. I just don't see how that fits into a culture of a team that breaks down post game talks by saying "family" in unison. It just doesn't.

Did I mention he's old? There's just not much left to his game at this point. Yes, the Lions can get a guy that  can contribute, but they'd be better off with a guy that can contribute a lot. That's not Suh.

After hearing both sides of the story, it's up to the good people that cheer for the Detroit Lions. Do you want Suh back with the Lions?
