The Detroit Lions could use some safety help after they released Tracy Walker and didn't bring C.J. Gardner-Johnson back. They're going to be hosting a very intriguing draft prospect when they bring in Utah safety Sione Vaki.

The Lions have spent a lot of time with this kid throughout the process. They saw him at the Senior Bowl and then had a formal meeting with him at the combine. Then they attended his pro day. Now they're bringing him in for a top 30 visit. That's every stage you can see a player at.

Vaki is a good safety, but the most intriguing thing about him is that he hasn't been a safety all that long. He came into Utah as a running back and was converted to safety. That did not stop the Utes from still using him on offense. Last year Vaki had 51 tackles, two sacks, two interceptions and two pass breakups. He also ran for 317 yards and two touchdowns and caught 11 passes for 203 yards a three touchdowns.

Top that off with Vaki being a kick returner in high school and you have a player that could potentially be the Lions next Jamal Agnew. He's totally open to that as well.

The Lions are looking for a safety that can be part of a rotation and someone like Vaki would be perfect for that. He's not going to be tasked with taking the brunt of the work, but can do that if you need him to. Then he can help out on special teams as a potential return man and come on for explosives and trick plays on offense.

It would be pretty hard for the Lions to pass up a guy like that. Right now Vaki is slated to go either late in the third-round or early in the fourth. We'll see if he's one of the guys the Lions like enough to make sure they get him. Certainly seems that way.
