Finally! The Detroit Lions have stayed away from most of the key positions so far with their selections in the 2023 NFL Draft, but that has finally changed with their second pick in the second round.

The biggest need as it remains for the Lions is still the secondary. Detroit chose to trade up to select Alabama safety Brian Branch to remedy that problem and end the woes of 2022.

Branch is a steal for the Lions in the second round. With speed, a great tape, and the talent to play almost every position on the defensive side of the ball, the rookie from Alabama stands to play a major role in the defensive turnaround in 2023.

It's still early, but this could end up being the best pick of the draft so far for the Lions if it pans out in the expected way. Look for Branch to do a little bit of everything on a defense that needs help wherever it can find it.

After a couple of picks where it seemed like the Lions reached in areas where they didn't need to, Branch is a steal this late in the second round.
