The first round of the 2023 NFL Draft has already been filled with trades, one of which includes the Detroit Lions.

Detroit always made sense as a team that could move off its first pick if it didn't love the players available or liked the value of a few later options, and now the move has finally happened.

Don't expect for Brad Holmes to simply give up prime drafting position for nothing. This move cost the Cardinals plenty and should end up helping the Lions in the long run.

While the initial compensation may not jump off the page to most Lions fans, that 34th pick should prove to be very valuable for a team that doesn't have many pressing needs at the moment.

The sixth and 81st picks may seem like a lot to give up for a late-round selection and an early second, but the Lions are clearly casting a wide net in this first round with their first three picks, and finding a way to bring in another so early to add with the 12th and 18th selections is far from a bad move for a team that could use plenty of young faces on both sides of the ball.

Perhaps Brad Holmes and company still have a few more moves up their sleeve before the night is over. Lions fans would be wise to bet on more big moves to come before the weekend is over.
