The Detroit Lions were never going to be quiet on the night of the 2023 NFL Draft. Brad Holmes and company would never let that happen with so many opportunities available.

While many fans saw defensive tackle Jalen Carter as a likely pick at six, the Lions had a better plan to make the most of a night that could make them playoff contenders.

Carter was never going to big a massive game-changer for the Lions in terms of playoff success, even if he is a good player. Instead of just getting one guy, the Lions will now have their shot at two top players based on likely compensation from the Cardinals, and that should play better for a team that needs help in multiple areas rather than just one to make a run in the playoffs.

Also, a move like this does remove the concerns that surround Carter's off-field exploits, and that is still worth mentioning with so much riding on such a valuable pick.

As long as the compensation is good, the Lions should be in a great spot after another awesome move by the front office. Trust in Brad Holmes.
