The first puzzle piece of the Detroit Lions 2023 schedule has been placed.
The Lions will play the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium in Week 1 at 8:20p.m ET on Thursday Sept. 7.
That means Lions will play eight games at Ford Field and nine games on the road. In fact, every NFC team will play nine road games as the NFL continues to alternate the scheduling disadvantage between conferences.
The rest of the Lions’ 2023 schedule will be officially announced Thursday at 8 p.m. ET.
The Chiefs will aim to start the season hot after being crowned Super Bowl champions in February. Head coach Andy Reid is a force to be reckoned with in Week 1 matchups as he hasn’t lost an opener since 2015 (8-0).
Detroit hopes to catch the Chiefs on a Super Bowl hangover as Dan Campbell’s bunch looks for a statement win to kick off the 2023 season. The season opener will be an early litmus test for the Lions.
The Lions improved in all sorts of different areas this offseason. The Bears strengthened their secondary with the additions of C.J. Gardner-Johnson, Cameron Sutton and Emmanuel Moseley.
Detroit also added premier talent in the draft to solidify depth at positions of weakness from just a season ago.
