Detroit Lions football is back!! So is What Just Happened?!!

You want to know what just happened? The Lions just went out and beat the Super Bowl champion sin their stadium in front of the world. Lions win 21-20.

As always, I have thoughts on this game. These are those thoughts:\

A fake punt from your own 17? Why not?

Because of course right? The Lions were at a 4th-and-2 from their own 17 and instead of punting it and playing it safe, Dan Campbell put his giant balls on the field and went for a fake punt and the Lions converted it! You have to love it. You must in fact.

Jared Goff

Giff had a pretty good night for the Lions. He went 22-35 for 253 yards and a touchdown. Goff also continued his turnover-less streak and even moved himself into third all time with 359 consecutive passes without an interception.

Fumbles

You just can't have them. Hopefully this means the Lions are getting them out of the way here at the start of the season. The first fumble hit Brock Wright on its way to Jared Goff. Luckily Goff was able to get on it. The second one hurt a lot more. The Lions had been cruising down field and then Marvin Jones fumbled for the first in his entire career in the red zone. Seriously, this was his 146th game and he had not fumbled up until that point.

Marvin's bad night

Speaking of Jones, this was one of the worst games I've ever seen him play. The fumble aside, he just could not make a catch. he was targeted 6 times and only made 2 catches for 8 yards. This was the type of performance that makes you wonder if the Lions are about to shake some things up at receiver ahead of Week 2 against the Seahawks.

Brian Branch has arrived

We've heard all summer long about how good Brian Branch is. Some were saying he might be the best defensive player in the entire draft. He made a huge impact in his very first game with a much needed pick six that helped the Lions tie the game. This kid is going to be a problem. I still can't believe he fell to the Lions in the second.

Khalil Dorsey

It wasn't the biggest play of the game, but I want to give the man some flowers for this play. Dorsey was playing as the Lions gunner and got hit form behind and still got up to make a play immediately after. That's good special teams work.

Mistakes hurt

The fumble was bad enough, but then having the Chiefs stuck at their own 36 on a 3rd-and-17 and then giving up two back to back chunk plays and then a touchdown in a matter of seconds on the game clock only compounds things for you.

Aidan Hutchinson is a problem

He didn't rack up sacks, but the man was in Mahomes face all night long with pressures and he was affecting a lot of what the Chiefs were trying to do. He had four pressures in the first half alone. He also hit Mahomes three times in this game. That was his game high in 2022. If you were wondering how Hutch would do in year two, he's looking pretty elite so far.

Jackie Boy!

Branch wasn't the only rookie on defense to make a play. Take look at this amazing pass breakup by the 18th overall pick.

Cramps

Don't worry Lions fans. Brain Branch and Levi Onwuzurike went down with cramps in this game. Neither injury is serious.

Time for a giveaway

Lions fans are always awesome. Back in July  challenged them to get me to 10,000 followers on Twitter before this game. If they did, I would send these gifts to one lucky follower.

While that goal was not met, they got me very far. So I'm going to give away at least one of these items. I'll be giving away the Barry Sanders figure.

The lucky winner is Dakota Ladd. Congrats Dakota. I'll be in touch soon to get your info.
