The Detroit Lions are already beginning to part with players ahead of Tuesday's cutdown day. On Wednesday waived defensive back Saivion Smith.

This is one of those NFL stories you hate to see. Smith was given a shot to start for the Lions in New England in 2022 after the team had such a rough start. We was taken off the field by ambulance shortly into the game after a neck injury.

The Lions brought him back for another shot this year and he definitely was headed toward making the roster, but Smith unfortunately was hurt again and now the Lions have waived him with an injury settlement.

You may have noticed that a couple other players have been waived the same way. Like Tom Kennedy and Mohamed Ibrahim, Smith will more than likely clear waivers and revert back to the Lions. At that time, the Lions will pay out that injury settlement and Smith will become a free agent once the period of his injury settlement is up.

We'll have more news on the Lions roster moves as they come in.
