This one might be the biggest shocker of them all. The Detroit Lions are waiving cornerback Chase Lucas. 

The former seventh round pick was really coming on for the Lions. He had a phenomenal preseason and capped it off with a big game against the Panthers on Friday. This should open the door for Steven Gilmore and Starling Thomas to make the team. It could also point to Emmanuel Moseley coming off the PUP list this week. 

The Lions may want to keep Lucas in Detroit and put him on their practice squad, but they're likely to have trouble doing that. Lucas is a real candidate to claimed on the waiver wire before the Lions get a chance to bring him back. If they do get the chance, they'll jump on it. 

The Lions are making a lot of surprising moves during the cutdown period, but it really shows how much talent that this team has that they aren't able to keep a player like Lucas on the roster.
