The Detroit Lions have the unfortunate honor of playing in one of the toughest divisions in all of NFL history.

The Bears, Packers, and Vikings all have their own claims to fame (although the first two are the most concrete), all while the Lions are known for having two of the best individual players in NFL history and still failing to meet expectations.

These opponent dynasties have lasted for a variety of reasons, but the easiest to point out is the Packers and their quarterbacks.

The Packers have been fielding a future Hall of Famer at quarterback against the Lions for two games a year since 1992. Let that sink in for a minute.

Going from Brett Favre to Aaron Rodgers is one of the greatest transitions of talent in NFL history, and the Detroit Lions have experienced the wrong end of this for long enough.

With Rodgers finally looking likely to depart the Packers under terms that are yet to be determined, all signs seem to point to Jordan Love taking over at QB1.

Perhaps the Lions can finally breathe again.

For the first time in a very long time, the Lions have a legitimate claim to having the best quarterback in the division with Jared Goff.

This may not mean much to outside divisions such as the AFC West, but it is worth noting that Goff was a top-ten quarterback by most accounts in 2022. Jordan Love is not projected to reach those marks in 2023.

Love might be a great quarterback down the road, but everything we have seen from him up until this point screams backup with project upside rather than Pro Bowler, much less Hall of Famer.

There is still a good head up in Green Bay with a strong arm and quality athleticism, but the Lion defense can sleep easier knowing it will face Jordan Love twice a season rather than Aaron Rodgers.
