Malcolm Rodriguez is often seen as undersized for his position. His height, arm length, and wingspan are well below most at the linebacker spot. Rodriguez has exceptional football IQ and ability to read offenses, which makes up for his somewhat below average physical features. Pro Football Focus lists Rodriguez as the 2nd highest graded rookie linebacker in rush defense. Rodriguez is instinctive when it comes to reading offenses and oftentimes uses his unique size to beat offensive lineman, by getting underneath them to pursue the ball carrier. Despite running a 4.52 40-yard dash, Rodriguez's game is lacking closing speed. Rodriguez really lacks in pass coverage and needs to be paired with a true mike linebacker in order to best succeed. All in all, the Lions got a steal in Malcolm Rodriguez and the future is bright for the former 6th round pick.
