The hype for Detroit Lions rookie Jahmyr Gibbs has been insane so far. It's been well deserved though. Gibbs has looked very good during the preseason and training camp and you can really see just how big of a role he's going to play in the Lions offense right away.

The role should be so big that NFL executives are picking him to win the NFL's Offensive Rookie of the Year award ahead of Thursday's season opener. Here's a little of what was said about Gibbs.

"I think he'll have an Alvin Kamara-type presence for the Lions with big plays and pass-catching ability," an NFL personnel director said. "Which will push them over the top. They are a hot team. And he's a major talent."

The Lions are rightfully on everyone's radar right now and so is Gibbs. It's likely because everyone seems to be hot on Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson. He plans to do big things with Gibbs this season. Even things that we might not even be ready for.

I predicted back at the start of August that Gibbs would run for 765 yards and catch for 535 yards. I predicted the rookie to put up 11 touchdowns as well. I think this should be good enough to get the job done for Rookie of the Year.

Can Gibbs do better than that? Absolutely. After seeing him through camp and seeing what he can do with his speed and shiftiness, I wouldn't be surprised to see him surpass those numbers. I also wouldn't be surprised to see him take home the award.

We'll see this week how much of an impact the rookie could have on this offense when the Lions play the Chiefs Thursday night. If Gibbs can bring home the award, he'll be the first Lions player to do so since Barry Sanders won in 1989.

Lions will be benching Isaiah Buggs against the Chiefs

It's been quite a couple days for Detroit Lions fans. On Saturday veteran defensive lineman Isaiah Buggs was absent from Allen Park during practice. On Sunday he put out a cryptic tweet that had everyone wondering hat was going on.  He returned to practice on Monday and spoke with media afterwards. It turns out that […]
