Should the Lions kick the tires on N'Keal Harry?

As you've seen me mention on many occasions, the Lions are in the market for some receiver depth. One of the best ways you find depth this time of year is to look at which players get dropped from other teams and give them a look on your team. One receiver just became available on Thursday and Lions fans have been asking if I think the Lions should kick the tires on him.

You may know that name well. Harry was a first round pick in 2019 and was the second receiver taken in that draft. The Patriots picked him and he was to be Tom Brady's new weapon. That never really happened though. He got hurt at training camp in his rookie year and only wound up playing seven games.

He played 14 games in his second season and racked up 33 receptions for 309 yards and two touchdowns. This would be his career best season. He was placed on injured reserve again in 2021 with a shoulder injury after asking to be traded.

He got his wish the following year when he was traded to the Bears. Then he was placed on injured reserve again. He only had seven catches for 116 yards and a touchdowns for the Bears. The Vikings signed him at the beginning of the month and just released him on Thursday ahead of the NFL's cutdown date.

The idea of Harry in Detroit is good in theory. He can play that X receiver role at 6-foot-4 and he had one of the highest vertical leaps at the 2019 combine. So theoretically, he can go up and get the ball. But again, this is all theoretical.

The idea of Harry is nice. The reality has been rough. That's the reason the Lions should not take a look. This would have been something they would have wanted to do at the start of camp like they did with Denzel Mims. Actually I recommended that as an option before camp. At this point, Harry doesn't have a realistic chance of making this roster.

I'm sure some team will give him a shot becasue there is talent to be unlocked there, but Detroit shouldn't be that team. At least not now.

The Lions should sign Equanimeous St. Brown if he’s released

The NFL cutdown day is just a few days away and an interesting name could be available for the Detroit Lions next week. That name is Amon-Ra St. Brown's older brother Equanimeous St. Brown.  Our own Bears reporter Bryce Lazenby suggested on Thursday morning that St. Brown could be the odd man out with the […]
