The Lions need to call this CFL receiver

Ok, here's what happened. For the last seven years, I've been covering the Detroit Lions for Pride of Detroit. While I was there I was friends and co-workers with John Whiticar. John, who is Canadian, used those Canadian powers on me to get me into watching the British Columbia Lions every now and again.

On Sunday night I was watching the Lions take on the Saskatchewan Roughriders when this happened.

Meet Samuel Emilus. Otherwise known as the Canadian Odell Beckham Jr. The Lions should maybe take a look at this guy.

Emilus is a 25 year old receiver from Montreal, Quebec. he played colllege ball here in the states at Massachusets and Louisiana Tech. He did not go to the NFL Combine and has never tried out for an NFL team. HE was, however, the seventh pick in the 2022 CFL Draft.

Emilus is still pretty new to professional football. He's in his second season and he's currently the number two option on the Roughriders. Shawn Bane Jr. is their top guy. with that said, Emilus is having a pretty decent season. He's racked up over 500 yards and four touchdowns in 10 games.

The Detroit Lions are currently in the market for some receiver depth. They don't currently have a guy on the roster who can play that X receiver role and go up and grab a contested catch. Emilus can do that for the Lions. He's a big bodied 6-foor-1 receiver that specializes in fighting for the ball in mid air.

The Lions can do it too. The CFL changed their CBA in 2020 and it now allows players to opt out of their contracts to move to the NFL  if they get the opportunity. Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Nathan Rourke recently left the CFL to go play in the NFL.

Would the Lions actually do this? It might be unlikely. Is this partially because my former editor sort of egged me on to write this? A little bit. I won't lie though, the moment Emilus made that catch, I was googling the CFL contract rules for players that want to jump to the NFL.

So yeah, here's an option Brad.
