The Lions have a penalty problem to clean up
The Detroit Lions are 2-1 right now and they have a shot to make that 3-1 on Thursday and take sole possession of first place in the NFC North. I'm sorry, I have to bring up some bad stuff. It's ok though, it's something the Lions can grow from. If the Lions want to win […]
The Detroit Lions are 2-1 right now and they have a shot to make that 3-1 on Thursday and take sole possession of first place in the NFC North. I'm sorry, I have to bring up some bad stuff. It's ok though, it's something the Lions can grow from.
If the Lions want to win the division this year, and maybe more, they need to clean up on their penalties Pretty simple stuff right? I didn't realize how bad things were until I looked it up today. The Lions have given up the sixth most penalty yards in the league in three games.
The Lions have allowed 206 penalty yards this season. When I saw that, I thought that surely they'd be near the top of the league in penalties committed. That's not the case. The Lions are 18th in penalties. That just means that the Lions are currently committing the most back breaking of offenses. The one's that come with the most yards.
That's why it should come as no surprise at all when I tell you that the Lions have the fourth most yards lost to defensive pass interference. 64 to be exact. That's 31% of their penalty issues right there. What's worse is that 75% of them have been committed by one guy. That's Jerry Jacobs. I won't blame him too much. He needs to fix this and it's something that he can fix.
The Lions other problem is holding. That accounts for 20% of their penalty issues. 40 yards have been lost for the Lions due to holding. This one is understandable. The Lions have gone through a massive shift with their line this season due to injuries. They actually did 't commit any holding penalties when everyone was healthy. They all came in the last two games.
The offensive line has also been called for chop blocks and false starts too, but those are hardly a concern becasue they've only happened once each.
All this stuff is fixable. That's the best part of this whole issue. It doesn't have to continue to be an issue. This has also yet to cost the Lions are game or anything. I mean, they did lose out on a David Montgomery touchdown against the Seahawks in the third quarter because of an offensive pass interference call, but that didn't stop the team from staying in the game.
We'll see what happens on Thursday when the Lions go up against second most penalized team in the NFL in the Green Bay Packers. See, it could be worse.
The Lions have a plan laid out for Emmanuel Moseley’s debut
It's beginning to look like things are closer than they've ever been for the Detroit Lions and Emmanuel Moseley. After missing the entirety of camp and then having a hamstring injury when he got to the team, it's looking like Moseley may be making his Lions debut soon. Maybe even Thursday. But don't expect Moseley […]
