The Detroit Lions made a big move ahead of Friday nights preseason debut when they did some work to keep one of their own. The Lions have signed receiver Kalif Raymond to a two year contract extension.
This is good news for the future of the Lions receiving corps. Raymond was slated to be a free agent after this season along with Marvin Jones and Denzel Mims. The Lions can now hold on to Raymond for the foreseeable future.
Raymond had a breakout season in 2022 when he caught 47 passes for 616 yards. He also racked up 264 yards and a touchdown in the punt return game. That touchdown being a big one against the Jets in New York. The team that cut him a few years earlier.
Raymond is expected to play a major role in the Lions offense at the beginning of the season since Jameson Williams will be suspended for the first six games of the year due to violating the leagues gambling policy.
Raymond could very well be as high the Lions wide receiver two during that time due to the speed he brings to the table. He'll also continue his role as the teams punt returner. This is a solid move by the Lions.
