WRs Brandin Cooks & CeeDee Lamb could be MAGIC together: Cowboys Film Breakdown
In this film breakdown, we take a look at Dallas Cowboys new WR Brandin Cooks, who has been one of the most consistent WRs in the league over the last 7 seasons.
After being dealt to Dallas for a 5th and 6th round pick, Cooks has now been traded 4 times, tying him for the NFL record. Cooks has eclipsed 1,000 yards in 6 of his 8 full seasons, and has been a reliable deep threat, who is also quick and shifty route runner. Paired with CeeDee Lamb, the Cowboys will now have two of the best deep threat WRs in the league. Cooks is a solid addition to this Cowboys WR room, however, I don't think they're set by any means. I still look for them to draft a WR in the first few rounds of the NFL Draft in April.
Cowboys WR Brandin Cooks Film Breakdown
Strengths:
- Speed: Cooks is known for his exceptional speed, which makes him a deep threat and allows him to stretch the field and create separation from defenders.
- Route running: Cooks is a precise route runner who is able to create separation from defenders through his quickness and ability to change direction.
- Hands: Cooks has good hands and is able to make difficult catches, including contested catches in traffic.
- Yards after catch: Cooks is dangerous with the ball in his hands and has the ability to make defenders miss and gain extra yards after the catch.
Weaknesses:
- Size: Cooks is relatively small for an NFL wide receiver, which can make it difficult for him to win contested catches against bigger defenders.
- Durability: Cooks has had a history of injuries throughout his career, including concussions, which has caused him to miss games and can limit his effectiveness on the field.
- Physicality: Cooks may struggle with physical defenders who can disrupt his timing and ability to get off the line of scrimmage, as well as press coverage.
- Inconsistent production: While Cooks has had some exceptional seasons, his production can be inconsistent at times, with some games where he is heavily involved in the offense and others where he might vanish.
