Chiefs DE Felix Anudike-Uzomah is a tackle's WORST NIGHTMARE: Film Breakdown
In this film breakdown, we take a look at Kansas City Chiefs newest DE, Felix Anudike-Uzomah, the last pick of the 1st round.
Anudike-Uzomah is a high motor player that resembles Frank Clark in my opinion, making him a perfect addition to the Chiefs defensive line, and eventual replacement of Clark. He was great flexibility and athleticism, but can end up on the ground on speed rushes, if he doesn't win right off the bat. I see him as an all or nothing pass rusher, because it seems like he hasn't fully developed counter moves, that can keep him moving forward, when his first move fails. He has a lot of great moves in his arsenal, he just isn't great at stringing them together, and transitioning from one to the other on the fly.
Strengths:
Work Ethic – He possesses a commendable work ethic when rushing the passer. Despite occasionally over-rushing or getting stopped, he perseveres by pursuing the quarterback or functioning as a spy.
Active Hands – In the running game, he can break free from blockers once the runner crosses the line of scrimmage. Anudike-Uzomah uses active hands to disengage, employing swipes or chops to overpower the offensive lineman.
Resilience – He exhibits remarkable pursuit (6) against the run, frequently venturing downfield to bring down the ball carrier. Furthermore, there are instances where he positions himself on one sideline but crosses over to the opposite side to chase the play.
Length – Anudike-Uzomah utilizes his length effectively in the running game, rapidly extending his arms to make tackles
Weaknesses:
Physicality – Anudike-Uzomah encounters difficulties in the running game when confronted by more physical offensive linemen. Such linemen can easily push him out of position or block him from accessing the gap.
Flexibility – While maneuvering around the edge, he lacks flexibility in his lower body. Apart from his speed moves, Anudike-Uzomah lacks a dependable technique to apply pressure.
Pad-Level – During various pass rush maneuvers, such as bullrushes, he maintains a high pad level, which undermines his effectiveness. Whenever he attempts to lower his pad level, he frequently loses his footing and ends up on the ground, vulnerable to pancaking.
