Murphy entered 2022 with incredibly high draft stock, with many expecting to see him go in the top-10. However, after a drop in production and efficiency in 2022, his stock took a hit. I think when you dive into his film though, you really see what Myles Murphy can bring to a team's defensive line. He's an elite athlete with great size, and a strong skillset in the pass rush. He looks great on flash plays, but struggles with consistently beating his man. Individual evaluations of Murphy will ultimately decide his future, as he seemed to regress every year of college.
Strengths:
- Pass-rushing ability: Murphy is an excellent pass-rusher who uses his quickness, agility, and strength to get past offensive linemen and disrupt the quarterback's timing. He has a variety of moves and techniques, including bull rushes, swim moves, and spin moves, that make him difficult to block.
- Run defense: Murphy is also strong against the run, using his size and athleticism to set the edge and stop ball carriers from getting to the outside. He has good instincts and is able to diagnose plays quickly, which allows him to make tackles in the backfield.
- Versatility: Murphy is a versatile defender who can play multiple positions along the defensive line. He has the size and strength to play inside and the quickness and agility to play outside, which makes him a valuable asset to any defensive scheme.
Weaknesses:
- Consistency: While Murphy has shown flashes of brilliance, he has also been inconsistent at times. He will need to work on being more consistent in his play and avoiding mental errors.
