Darnell Washington is a MONSTER: NFL Draft Film Breakdown
In this film breakdown, we take a look at Georgia tight end Darnell Washington, a true junior that stands TALL at 6’7 280lbs.
We take a look at what makes him such a dominant force in the run game, and how he can also make an impact in the passing game, at such an enormous size. He is my TE2 heading into the 2023 NFL Draft, and here, I explain why he is a new species of NFL tight end.
Strengths:
- Size and athleticism: Washington is a towering presence on the field, standing at 6'7" and 265 pounds, with excellent speed and agility for his size.
- Receiving ability: Washington has shown strong hands and the ability to make tough catches in traffic, along with good route-running skills.
- Red zone threat: Washington's size and leaping ability make him a valuable target in the red zone, where he can out-jump defenders to make catches.
- Blocking: Washington's size and strength make him an effective blocker, both in pass protection and in the run game.
Weaknesses:
- Consistency: While Washington has shown flashes of brilliance, he has also been inconsistent at times, with drops and lapses in concentration.
- Route running: While Washington has good hands and size, his route running could use improvement, as he can be slow in and out of his breaks.
- Durability: Washington has dealt with some injuries during his college career, which could be a concern at the next level.
