This video was recorded prior to the draft, but the scouting report still stands, as I think Martin is arguably the most exciting DB in this 2023 NFL Draft class. He is crazy explosive, showing off incredible range on the back end of Illinois' defense in 2022. He led the nation in hand on ball percentage, showing that he is constantly in contention to make a play. Martin only played 177 snaps at free safety last season, but in the limited sample size, you see that he can clearly play the position as he gets more comfortable and speeds up his processing and play diagnosis. He has a defined skill set that works well in the slot as a nickel defender, with great burst and closing speed to break up routes.

Commanders DB Quan Martin Film Breakdown

Strengths:

Football Instincts: Martin has a natural feel for the game and is able to make split-second decisions that can be the difference in giving up a huge play or a touchdown

Speed: Martin has elite speed and quickness on the field. He is able to cover a lot of ground quickly, allowing him to keep up with fast receivers or make plays in the backfield.

Physicality: Martin is a physical player who is not afraid to hit hard and intimidate opponents with his presence on the field. He is a willing hitter who enjoys the physical aspect of the game and is not afraid to put his body on the line to make a play.

Nickel CB: The Nickel position requires quickness and agility, as they are  often responsible for covering shifty slot receivers or tight ends. A very good nickel cornerback  is able to cover effectively in the slot while also contributing to the run defense and making plays in the backfield.

Weaknesses:

Size: Martin is a little undersized for a man of his position, as in overall size including weight, and length.

Patience: At times, Martin needs to be more consistent with high-pointing the football and attacking it rather than waiting for the football to come to him.
