Tucker Kraft could become the NEXT GRONK: NFL Draft Film Breakdown

In this film breakdown, we take a look at South Dakota State TE Tucker Kraft, a SUPER underrated prospect, who has one of the most well-rounded athletic profiles that I’ve ever evaluated.

Kraft had a breakout year in 2021, racking up 770 yards and 6 TDs. 2022 was supposed to be his full breakout year, but an ankle injury kept him sidelined for most of the season, limiting his production to a mere 348 yards and 3 TDs. The lack of tape, combined with poor competition makes him a tough prospect to scout, however, I think his athletic traits will translate to the NFL nicely. He looks strong over the middle and going down the seam, but doesn't run the sharpest routes for someone who tested fairly well in short agility drills. He has great hands for a guy his size, making him lethal in the red zone and when matched up with smaller defenders.

Strengths:

– Red Zone Threat: Kraft uses his soft hands and physicality to effectively shield defenders, particularly in the red zone

– Blocking: Kraft is also a valuable asset in both the running and passing game as an excellent blocker. He is particularly effective as a mauler in the run game, while also maintaining a powerful wide base in limited action as a pass blocker

– Athleticism: Kraft has continued to improve as an athlete and was particularly impressive at the combine, with most of his measurable skills ranking in the top 75th percentile

– Smoothness: With his broad shoulders, long limbs, and smooth athleticism, Kraft has demonstrated the ability to make plays downfield

Weaknesses:

– Route Tree: Kraft has primarily run a limited route tree while playing at South Dakota, and even the routes he does run are often rounded

– Blocking Position: Kraft sometimes blocks too high, allowing defenders to win the leverage battle by getting under his pads

– Drops: Kraft has pretty good hands, he has been known to drop passes due to a lack of concentration, as he sometimes turns and runs before securing the ball

– Speed: Kraft is not likely to overpower opposing defensive backs with his speed or athleticism, as he does not possess elite speed or suddenness and may struggle to make sharp cuts
