Monday was the first day the Green Bay Packers put on some form of pads, but it was legendary NFL quarterback Peyton Manning that stole the show early-on.
Manning was spotted chatting it up with Packers head coach Matt LaFleur and Packers president/CEO Mark Murphy on different occasions. He was later surrounded by fans hoping for autographs and pictures once practice concluded.
But the real interest was in the reason -or reasons- for Manning's attendance. Per ESPN's Rob Demovsky, Manning was there with his production company, Omaha Productions, to discuss a "potential project".
Naturally, this led to instant speculation that Jordan Love could be featured in Manning's Netflix documentary, Quarterback. The doc was recently approved for a second season and Manning is currently on the hunt for the next trio of quarterbacks to focus on. So, it makes sense to think Quarterback was the "potential project" being discussed.
That wasn't the case, however. The Athletic's Matt Schneidman later reported that's not why Manning was there.
Either way, the odds of Love signing on weren't good to begin with. The Packers quarterback has been adamant about focusing solely on getting himself on track and avoiding any and all unnecessary distractions.
"I'm trying not to do so much in life to where I'm pulled so many different ways and I can't relax and settle down or focus on what I need to focus on," Love said back in June. "I tell people all the time that I'm trying to focus on this year and not do too much outside [of football]. Obviously, life changes a little bit when you go from a backup to a starter."
It'll be interesting to eventually find out the reason for Manning's visit, but at least we some have some sort of closure when it comes to what it isn't.
