The Green Bay Packers now know exactly when they will face each opponent during the 2024 NFL season, after the league announced the full schedule.
So, it's time to predict what their season might look like. Remember, this is just an exercise. Last year, this exact team won against the Kansas City Chiefs, Detroit Lions, Los Angeles Chargers, and Dallas Cowboys, but lost to the Atlanta Falcons, Las Vegas Raiders, Denver Broncos, and New York Giants.
But it's a fun way to spend our offseason days, analyzing each and every matchup of the year.
Week 1: at Philadelphia Eagles
This is a particularly intriguing game because it will happen in São Paulo, Brazil, in the first week of the season. The game will be held on the Friday after the season kickoff, which helps the Packers' logistics to return to the United States.
In terms of matchup, the Eagles are still one of the top challengers in the NFC, so it's a good way to measure what both teams can be in 2024. Jalen Hurts, AJ Brown, Devonta Smith, and Saquon Barkley offer a solid test for Jeff Hafley in his first game as an NFL defensive coordinator.
Prediction: GB 24-21 PHI (1-0)
Week 2: vs Indianapolis Colts
The Colts have brought problems for the Packers over the years, which includes winning the last three and four of the last five games. Green Bay's most recent win over Indy was in 2008, Aaron Rodgers' first season as a starter. The current version of the Colts is an up and down team, but the outcome of this game will probably depend on how well Anthony Richardson is playing. The logistics coming back from Brazil shouldn’t help.
Prediction: GB 20-23 IND (1-1)
Week 3: at Tennessee Titans
The Titans have tried to build a strong offensive infrastructure around Will Levis, adding wide receivers Calvin Ridley and Tyler Boyd in free agency. Nevertheless, Levis still has to improve as a passer for the Titans to be strong.
Prediction: GB 27-14 TEN (2-1)
Week 4: vs Minnesota Vikings
The Vikings tend to offer difficult games, even when they are at Lambeau Field. Last year, for example, the road team won both times in the Packers-Vikings rivalry games. Minnesota is trying to rebuild its defense with young talent and will have a new quarterback (be it Sam Darnold or JJ McCarthy), but the offense is too talented for it to be a bad team. However, the Packers finished the season better, and it’s hard for the Vikings to be good right away without Kirk Cousins.
Prediction: GB 21-17 MIN (3-1)
Week 5: at Los Angeles Rams
The Rams were a playoff team last year, and they overachieved compared to preseason expectations just like the Packers did in 2023. However, they lost Aaron Donald, which is a huge component. Matt LaFleur has had an advantage over Sean McVay as well, which is an interesting consideration.
Prediction: GB 27-23 LAR (4-1)
Week 6: vs Arizona Cardinals
The Cardinals are a dangerous, ascending team. Now they have Kyler Murray back healthy, Marvin Harrison, and they are well coached on both sides of the ball. While I wouldn't be surprised if the Cardinals play much better than anticipated this year, at this point the Packers are still the stronger roster.
Prediction: GB 24-17 ARI (5-1)
Week 7: vs Houston Texans
The Packers and the Texans are similar teams, with ascending young quarterbacks and good head coaches. Now that Green Bay has Jeff Hafley, both schemes on offense and defense are similar, so it's an excellent way to measure what the Packers truly are. And while I'm high on Love, CJ Stroud is a rising star.
Prediction: GB 24-27 HOU (5-2)
Week 8: at Jacksonville Jaguars
The Jaguars have Trevor Lawrence, but other than that it's a pretty questionable roster. And with such a weak supporting cast, even Lawrence himself hasn't been what was expected from him in the pre-draft process.
Prediction: GB 30-17 JAX (6-2)
Week 9: vs Detroit Lions
This is a huge game with obvious playoff implications, because the Packers and Lions are presumably the best teams in the NFC North. It's also a big opportunity for the Packers' defense to shine. Even though the Lions have a strong offensive line, the receiving group is questionable at best, which creates a favorable matchup.
Prediction: GB 30-24 DET (7-2)
Week 10: bye
Week 11: at Chicago Bears
The Packers have won 10 games in a row against the Bears. This time around, it will be a different version of the team with Caleb Williams and Rome Odunze. Earlier in the season, Green Bay's chances would be better, but the Packers are still favored to win.
Prediction: GB 30-17 CHI (8-2)
Week 12: vs San Francisco 49ers
That's probably the biggest game of the regular season for the Packers. And while Green Bay has won several regular season games over the last couple of years against San Francisco, the doubts will continue until they can do it in the playoffs. Either way, it's a big test to show what they can do in the NFC race.
Prediction: SF 31-21 GB (8-3)
Week 13: vs Miami Dolphins
The Dolphins are a powerful offense. Even though Tua Tagovailoa has a limited ceiling, and Jordan Love is the better quarterback at this point, the explosiveness of the Dolphins' weapons is a huge consideration.
Prediction: GB 27-34 MIA (8-4)
Week 14: at Detroit Lions
The Packers won in Detroit last year on Thanksgiving, but it's difficult to predict a sweep in this series considering how strong the Lions have been. The defense might get better with new investments in the secondary, so it's a game where the Packers will have to run the ball well to kill the clock and be efficient.
Prediction: GB 21-27 DET (8-5)
Week 15: at Seattle Seahawks
It's difficult to predict what the Seahawks will be, because it's a completely different version of the team entering the post-Pete Carroll era under Mike Macdonald. It's a solid roster, but the Packers have a higher ceiling with Jordan Love — and he will have to play well against a tough defensive scheme.
Prediction: GB 17-14 SEA (9-5)
Week 16: vs New Orleans Saints
The Saints have an aging roster, a bad cap situation, and a mediocre quarterback. When these teams faced off last season, the Saints would presumably be better, but the Packers could still pull off a fourth-quarter comeback at Lambeau Field. The Saints will always have a tough defense under Dennis Allen, though.
Prediction: GB 21-14 NO (10-5)
Week 17: at Minnesota Vikings
The Packers have won three of the last five games at US Bank Stadium, including last season, in Jordan Love's first start in Minnesota. However, the Vikings have a lot of talent on the roster and are a well coached team.
Prediction: GB 21-27 MIN (10-6)
Week 18: vs Chicago Bears
Later in the season, the Bears' chances might get higher as the young players on their roster get better. But at the same time, the Packers also have a young team with ascending pieces. The Bears might very well pull this one off, but I will trust the Packers in this matchup until proven otherwise.
Prediction: GB 27-21 CHI (11-6)
