The Aaron Rodgers era has officially come to a close in Green Bay. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports the Packers have finalized a trade with the New York Jets sending the four-time MVP to the Big Apple.
Along with Rodgers, the Packers are sending the No. 15 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft and a fifth-round pick (No. 170) to the Jets. Green Bay receives the Jets’ first-round selection (No. 13 overall), a second-round pick (No. 42), a sixth-round pick (No. 207), and a conditional 2024 second-round pick that turns into a first if Rodgers plays 65 percent of the Jets offensive snaps in 2023.
Packers Receive:
- 2023 First-Round Pick (No. 13 overall)
- 2023 Second-Round Pick (No. 42)
- 2023 Sixth-Round Pick (No. 207)
Jets Receive:
- QB Aaron Rodgers
- 2023 First-Round Pick (No. 15 overall)
- 2023 Fifth-Round Pick (No. 170)
- 2024 Conditional Second-Round Pick (Becomes first-round pick if Rodgers plays 65 percent of snaps)
Overall, the Packers come out of this with a massive draft haul. Green Bay jumps two spots in the first round this year, add a second rounder and, barring something unexpected, recoup a first-round pick in 2024.
Green Bay now enters the draft with 11 total selections, including three picks within the first two rounds. General manager Brian Gutekunst has all of the ammunition he needs in order to surround Jordan Love with a capable supporting cast.
Rodgers leaves Green Bay after 18 seasons with the team. His accolades include 10 Pro Bowl selections, four MVPs, four All-Pros and the MVP of Super Bowl XLV. Rodgers holds the Packers franchise record for most touchdown passes and is second all-time in passing yards (59,055) trailing only Brett Favre (61,655). As a starter, Rodgers held a remarkable 147-75-1 mark and an 11-10 record in postseason play.
Although the ink has dried, it still doesn’t feel real. Watching Rodgers play in a Jets uniform will be a hard pill to swallow for Packers fans. But whenever times get tough, they can always look up at the Super Bowl XLV banner hanging in Lambeau Field.
A new era is set to begin in Green Bay. Gutekunst and the Packers will be a team to watch in this weekend’s draft as the franchise adjusts to life without Rodgers.
