Trade talks featuring Aaron Rodgers have stalled over the last few weeks between the Green Bay Packers and New York Jets. However, one NFL insider believes the two teams are ramping conversations back up with the 2023 NFL Draft less than a week away.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport is reporting that the two sides have “re-engaged on trade talks surrounding Aaron Rodgers.”
Though Rodgers to the Jets has felt like a done deal for quite some time, Packers GM Brian Gutekunst isn’t letting the Jets out easy. New York is a quarterback away from truly contending in the AFC, which figures to only give Green Bay more leverage in trade talks.
Plus, the Jets signed former Packers WR Allen Lazard to a four-year deal in free agency, who they figure to pair with his old pal in Rodgers. The Packers know that they hold all of the cards in this particular negotiation and it’s clear that they won’t sign off on the deal until their needs are met.
If the deal is finalized ahead of the draft, the Packers are likely to add a load of draft capital to replenish a roster which lost many key contributors over the offseason. Though the trade feels imminent, it won’t seem real until the ink finally dries.
