It's usually easy to understand what types of players the Green Bay Packers will draft. They have to be athletic, experienced, versatile. With the 202nd pick this year, though, they took an unusual approach in the sixth round. The selection is offensive tackle Travis Glover, from Georgia State.
Glover has some experience, but he is still raw and not very athletic. His RAS is just 4.71, by far the lowest among the Packers' 2024 draft picks up to this point. But he's a tall player (6'6) with a high upside.
As you can see above, he uses his physical abilities to move defensive linemen, even though his technique isn't polished.
Position
The Packers heavily addressed the offensive line in this draft. In the first round, general manager Brian Gutekunst selected Jordan Morgan, a college left tackle projected to play inside, but with tackle upside.
In the fifth round, the Packers got another versatile player in Jacob Monk. He can play tackle in a pinch, but Green Bay sees him as a swing guard/center.
Travis Glover, on the other hand, is mostly a developmental left tackle. He is probably a backup to start his career without a path to start right away, but with a realistic shot at being an important piece throughout his rookie contract.
At the moment, the starting tackles for the Packers are Rasheed Walker and Zach Tom, even though Brian Gutekunst said Jordan Morgan can play at tackle too. Their intention is to put the five best linemen on the field.
The backup developmental options are Caleb Jones, Luke Tenuta, and Kadeem Telfort. Last week, the team also signed veteran Andre Dillard, a former first-round pick by the Philadelphia Eagles who was a starting left tackle for the Tennessee Titans in 2023.
Picks left
The 202nd selection was the only sixth-round pick left for the Packers after two moves to go up on day 3, one in the fourth and another in the fifth round. Now, the team still has two picks, both in the seventh round (245 and 255).
