There shouldn't be any debate on whether Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud is the offensive rookie of the year. That part is clear.
And he has an opportunity to add to his rookie season lore in a Week 12 matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars
All the rookie needs is 263 passing yards, and he will surpass Justin Herbert for the most passing yards by a rookie in his first 11 games (3,224).
If Stroud can do so, it will be yet another rookie record that he will own exclusively. That is just how good he has been this season.
The 6-foot-3 Ohio State product holds the rookie record for single-game passing yards by a rookie (470). He did that against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers — in what can only be described as one of the best games of the season.
Stroud is also tied with Patrick Mahomes for most career passing touchdowns before his second interception.
Hindsight is always 20-20. And coming out of Ohio State, no one could have predicted Stroud would be this dominant this fast. But he is. The Texans are clearly better for it.
Kickoff against the Jaguars is set for 1 p.m. Eastern. The fate of yet another rookie record will be decided by Sunday evening.
