The Houston Texans have ten starting positions that could be open. That's how many big free agents they have who may hit the open market. Now, obviously, there is an even bigger chance they bring more back than not, but it helps put things into perspective.

In total, the Texans have 29 guys hitting free agency, so there is a lot of making up to do in terms of building on the roster that won a playoff game just a year ago. And that just shows that getting back there won't be as easy as most may think.

One of the more underrated guys in the league, and a more coveted guy to the Texans, will be one of those guys hitting the open market. Defensive end and great pass rusher Jonathan Greenard is set to be a free agent, but some recent news tells us we can't count out on him not coming back to Houston.

According to NFL insider Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2, the Texans and Greenard still have common financial ground between the two sides. The Texans are actively pursuing one another as free agency approaches. Both sides are highly motivated, but his market may overwhelm his shared desire to extend his contract in Houston.

The Texans will likely have some competition for the defensive end, which will greatly help them in 2023. Greenard finished with 12.5 sacks, which is good enough to get him a pretty hefty deal, especially when you factor in that he had an eight-sack season two years ago.

The Texans will likely have to come right with the checkbook because other teams will drive up the price.
