The Texans have something that many teams are envious of- solid starters at both tackle positions.

Laremy Tunsil and Tytus Howard have anchored the offensive line in Houston since the 2019 season. In that time, Tunsil has solidified himself as one of the best left tackles in the league, while Howard has slowly improved every season.

If you're a fan of keeping this tackle duo together, this latest report should thrill you.

Per NFL insider Aaron Wilson, the Texans are expected to make an extension for Howard "a priority."

Howard played in all 17 games for the first time in 2022, strictly lining up at right tackle. The veteran has spent time at left tackle and guard in the past and had not-so-great results. However, when sticking at right tackle, Howard has held his own.

In 2022, Howard earned a respectable 67.9 PFF grade, the highest mark of his career. The Texans allowed 38 sacks in 2022, but only three of those were attributed to Howard.

The Alabama State product will earn a $13.2M salary in 2023 after the Texans picked up Howard's fifth-year option. With top tackles making $20M+, it can be assumed that an extension would be worth more annually than Howard will make in 2023.

Howard's running mate Tunsil is the highest-paid tackle in the league with an annual salary of $25M. While Howard is unlikely to earn nearly this much, an extension could place his salary somewhere between the $14-16M mark annually.

Having a solid line is as important as ever in Houston with rookie QB CJ Stroud behind center. We've repeatedly seen the importance of stability for a young QB, and keeping Stroud off of his back should be the number one priority.
