The Texans have seemingly worked nonstop to add to the roster for the 2023 season. With multiple new starters on both sides of the ball, the 2023 product will look much different than the previous edition.

General manager Nick Caserio and new head coach DeMeco Ryans have used all available methods to add talent. Shaq Mason was traded for, CJ Stroud and Will Anderson Jr. were drafted, and Sheldon Rankins and other difference-makers were brought in free agency.

However, after the Tuesday news, it's obvious that not every move will work out.

Per NFL insider Aaron Wilson, the Texans have parted ways with linebacker Jermaine Carter. Carter's Texans' tenure lasted just over a week

Carter is being replaced by undrafted rookie LB Ian Swenson. The former UConn Huskie impressed at the rookie minicamp tryout in Houston. Swenson was a multi-year starter at UConn, putting up 73 tackles and 4.5 tackles for loss in 2021.

The linebacker is making the switch to LB after playing as a defensive back in college. Swenson could carve out a niche as a special teams contributor, which is the role Carter was expected to have.

Carter could be added by a team seeking LB depth. The veteran LB spent time with the Browns in 2022 after four seasons with the Carolina Panthers. While mostly a special teamer, Carter did flash immense potential in 2021 when he collected 88 tackles and three tackles for loss.
