The 2023 NFL Draft has come and gone. It was not without drama- in fact, this draft set a record for most trades during a draft weekend in NFL history.

The Texans have to be one of the biggest winners of the weekend. The team added a franchise QB, a franchise pass rusher, and likely multiple starters.

If you missed any of the teams' picks, see the recap here. For the undrafted free agent tracker, check here

Now that the draft is over, and the majority of the UDFA signings have happened, it's time for a way-too-early 53-man roster preview.

Note: Players with single asterisk (*) are 2023 draft picks and players with double asterisks (**) are 2023 undrafted free agents.

Quarterback (2)

IN: CJ Stroud*, Case Keenum
OUT: Davis Mills, EJ Perry

The skinny: Stroud is undoubtedly the starter after being selected with the No. 2 pick. Keenum will be on the roster for mentorship purposes, and he spent his college years and early career in Houston. Mills is good enough to be a backup in the league, but I just don't think it'll be in Houston. I don't see the team carrying three QBs as of now. Look for Mills to be traded for a late-round pick as teams get desperate for QB depth.

Running back (4 RB, 1 FB)

IN: Dameon Pierce, Devin Singletary, Mike Boone, Dare Ogunbowale, Andrew Beck (FB)
OUT: Gerrid Doaks, Xazavian Valladay**, Troy Hairston

The skinny: Pierce, Singletary, and Beck are locks. It is very possible the team only keeps three running backs since Beck is a FB/TE hybrid. If they only keep three, I believe Ogunbowale would get the edge due to his return ability and special teams prowess. If they keep four, I believe it will come down to Valladay and Boone. Boone received around $300K in guarantees this offseason, but a strong camp and preseason could easily result in the team choosing the young Valladay.

Wide receiver (6)

IN: Robert Woods, John Metchie III, Noah Brown, Nico Collins, Tank Dell*, Steven Sims
OUT: Xavier Hutchinson*, Amari Rodgers, Jalen Camp, Drew Estrada, Johnny Johnson III, Alex Bachman, Jesse Matthews**, Jared Wayne**

The skinny: It was very tough to narrow this down to just six guys. Camp and pre-season play will help differentiate the guys at the bottom of the list. For now, I give Sims the final spot due to his special teams abilities. Hutchinson, the 2023 sixth-round pick, could easily make this team as a red zone threat, but I believe he would benefit from a year on the practice squad.

Tight end (3)

IN: Dalton Schultz, Teagan Quitoriano, Brevin Jordan
OUT: Mason Schreck

The skinny: This group already seems set. No rookies have been added at this point, and unless a veteran free agent is added, I don't see this changing. Schultz is one of the best pass-catching tight ends in the league and is the unquestioned starter. Quitoriano and Jordan have yet to make an impact at the NFL level, but should get plenty of chances in 2023. Andrew Beck will play some tight end as well.

Offensive line (9)

IN: Laremy Tunsil, Kenyon Green, Juice Scruggs*, Shaq Mason, Tytus Howard, Charlie Heck, Michael Deiter, Scott Quessenberry, Jarrett Patterson*
OUT: Austin Deculus, Jimmy Morrissey, Tyler Beach**, Dylan Deatherage**

The skinny: This is a much-improved roster compared to the 2022 edition. Mason and Scruggs should be the two new starters on the interior, and 2023 sixth-rounder Jarrett Patterson should land a role as a depth piece on the interior. Deiter, Quessenberry, and Heck round out the roster for now, but one of the UDFA's could easily sneak in.

Defensive line (9)

IN: Will Anderson Jr.,* Sheldon Rankins, Hassan Ridgeway, Jonathan Greenard, Jerry Hughes, Maliek Collins, Chase Winovich, Taylor Stallworth, Dylan Horton*
OUT: Kurt Hinish, Roy Lopez, Thomas Booker IV, Demone Harris, Derek Rivers, Adedayo Odeleye, Ali Gaye**

The skinny: The Texans had one of the worst defensive lines in the league in 2022. I think it's safe to say that will not be a problem in 2023. Potentially three of the four starters could be newcomers, as Anderson, Rankins, and Ridgeway all appear poised for big roles. Greenard and Hughes should retain their spots as rotational pass rushers, and Winovich is another newcomer who will rotate in. Horton makes the team as a rookie and provides solid depth, but it also wouldn't be surprising for him to end up on the practice squad. For now, Stallworth gets the last spot over Derek Rivers and Roy Lopez

Outside linebacker (4)

IN: Cory Littleton, Christian Harris, Henry To'oTo'o*, Blake Cashman,
OUT: Garret Wallow, Jake Hansen

The skinny: This group could use an outside addition for depth purposes. Rookie To'oTo'o was brought in and should contribute on special teams immediately. Cashman makes the roster for now, but this could change after other teams release potential options.

Inside linebacker (2)

IN: Denzel Perryman, Christian Kirksey
OUT: None

The skinny: These are the only two middle linebackers currently on the roster. I assume the team will eventually add here, either an undrafted player or a veteran hanging out on the market. Either way, depth is needed here.

Cornerback (5)

IN: Derek Stingley, Jr., Steven Nelson, Desmond King II, Tavierre Thomas, Kendall Sheffield
OUT: D'Angelo Ross, Ka'dar Hollman, Cobi Francis

The skinny: As of now, I have Sheffield earning the fifth-and-final spot in this group. This is another position in which an outside addition is still possible. The first four are locked, but the fifth corner could possibly not be on the roster currently.

Safety (5)

IN: Jalen Pitre, Jimmie Ward, MJ Stewart, Eric Murray, Brandon Hill
OUT: Darius Joiner**, Grayland Arnold

The skinny: Pitre and Ward are locked in as starters, and Stewart and Murray are pretty close to locks as solid veterans. Because I only kept five corners, I believe there could be five safeties kept. For this, I'll go with the 2023 seventh-rounder in Brandon Hill. Hill is undersized and not exactly a ballhawk, but he's a gritty, hard-hitting safety who could find his niche on special teams.

Special Teams (3)

IN: Joe Doyle**, Ka'imi Fairbairn, Jon Weeks
OUT: Cameron Johnston

The skinny: Here's a bold take- I have Doyle beating out Johnston for the punter job. Doyle was top 10 in the nation in punt average in 2022, and would also save the team some money. Fairbairn has yet to have any competition added, so for now he will be the kicker. Weeks will be the long-snapper once again.
